Karla L. Hustedt, 66, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2024, at her home in rural Galva surrounded by her family.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 8, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Galva with Rev. Paul D. Egger officiating.  Burial will be at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery of Galva. A visitation will be held on Sunday, April 7, from 4:30-7 p.m. at Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Holstein.

Karla Lee Witte was born Dec. 15, 1957 in Alta, the eldest daughter of Emmett and Laura (Weiland) Witte. Karla was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Schaller.

Growing up, Karla was a Schaller Rocket and graduated in the class of 1976. She was an avid athlete competing in softball, track and basketball. She handed down her speed to her boys. Karla had a younger sister, Karen (Witte) Malcolm, and you could always find them running around together, chatting on the phone every morning at 9 a.m., raising their kids together and especially spending time with their parents. Karla and Karen were best friends for life.

Karla went to Augustana and Northwestern College for three years studying physical education. She wrote a letter to her future husband, Randy, who was at University of Northern Iowa and said they were getting married and moving back to the Weiland Home Place to farm, just north of Galva. On Nov. 24,1979, Karla married Randal Jay Hustedt in Galva at St. John’s Lutheran Church and they had four children: Joel, Chad, Keith and Dana. Karla and Randy worked together on the farm, raised their kids and were very involved in the Galva community.

Karla led the Galva Lutheran Church Ladies Aid, actively participated in Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) and ran the Galva ball field concession stand for many years. Karla’s favorite things included gardening and canning, playing cards, attending countless sporting events for her children, spending time and taking trips with her special high school gal pals, activities with her Galva gal pals and most importantly — spending time with her eight grandkids.

Those left to cherish her memory and wit include husband of 44 years, Randy of Galva; sons: Joel (Jordan) Hustedt of Galva; Chad (Jennifer) Hustedt of Alta; Keith (Cori) Hustedt of Fort Mill, S.C.; daughter Dana Hustedt of Galva; grandchildren: Eve and Jett Hustedt; Paisley, Presley and Grady Hustedt; and Kason, Scotti Lee and Kade Hustedt; sister Karen (Richard) Malcom of Schaller; nephew Marcus (Khara) Malcom of Lincoln, Neb.; niece Jenna Malcom of San Francisco, Calif.; mother-in-law Phyllis Hustedt of Galva; sister-in-law Carol (Mark) Scoles; brother-in-law Lanny Hustedt of Galva; and extended family.

Karla was preceded in death by her parents, Emmett and Laura Witte; father-in-law Alverne Hustedt; and uncle Lloyd Weiland.
