Joann Anderson, 91, of Correctionville passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2024, at Park View Rehabilitation Center of Sac City.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Aug. 20, at 10:30 a.m. at United Methodist Methodist Church of Correctionville with Ron Rice, Pastor Jon Montgomery and Rev. Dr. Eric Z. Sayonkon officiating. A visitation will be held Monday, Aug. 19, from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home of Correctionville. Burial will be at Correctionville Cemetery.

Joann Earnest Anderson was born Jan. 19, 1933, in rural Oto to Raymond and Blanche (Christopherson) Earnest. She graduated from Cushing High School in 1951. During her early school years, she didn’t miss any days for snow because her father drove a road maintainer and would give her a ride to school in it.

She was united in marriage to Raymond Duane Anderson Nov. 6, 1955, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Cushing. When they were dating, she always knew when Duane arrived to pick her up because her little sister always ran and yelled, “Here comes that man again!” Duane and Joann were blessed with two children, Deanna and Julie. The couple lived in various places but they always considered Correctionville home.

Joann had a great love for family. She held a variety of jobs during her lifetime but the most important ones were wife, mother and grandma. She was an excellent cook, a skill that she learned from her mother. Joann was a particularly fantastic pie maker. She shared her delectable wares with everyone, whether it came from her own kitchen or she baked it in the kitchen of family or friends who she was staying with. She also enjoyed playing cards.

She opened her home, her heart and her arms to welcome others with a place to stay for healing, for helping and for the love of doing for others. Whenever someone visited, Joann she always asked if they were hungry or needed something to drink.

Joann is survived by her daughters: Deanna (Dennis) Berry of Lake View; and Julie Anderson of Correctionville; grandchildren: Shelly (Jade) Pospeshil and their children, Mason and Maddison of Johnston; and Nick (Corrin) Berry and their children Collins, Colton and Bowen of Ames; brother Elmer (Patty) Earnest of Mountain, Wis.; sister Jeanette Evans of Shelby; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister Geraldine Fitch; brothers-in-law, Cyril Fitch and Gerald Evans; nephew Elmer Eugene Earnest, Jr.; and niece Kari Earnest.

For a lady that was superstitious about the number 13, I guess that she wanted her family to remember it forever.  She left us to be reunited with the love of her life Aug. 13 at 10:13 p.m.
