Frank Popp, 76, of Newell died Monday, Aug. 12, 2024, at his residence.
Graveside services with military honors will be held Thursday, Aug. 15, at 9:45 a.m. in Newell Cemetery. Memorial services will follow at 11 a.m. at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake.
Frankie Carl Popp was born Jan. 30, 1948, to Elmer and Betty (Pilloud) Popp in Storm Lake. He attended school in Storm Lake, graduating in 1966. Frank served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and the Iowa National Guard until his retirement on Jan. 30, 2008.
Frank was united in marriage to Jan Popp on Sept. 6, 1980, at the cottage on Casino Beach in Storm Lake. To this union, two children were born: Kenneth and Karla.
Frank was a member of the VFW, American Legion and Mustang Club of America. He enjoyed working on cars, driving his Mustang and working on his wife’s Volkswagen Bug. He loved putting model cars together. You could find Frank in Alta at the racetrack or watching NASCAR races. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Frank is survived by his wife Jan Popp of Newell; children: Kenny Popp of Newell; Karla (Dan) Heflin of Fort Wayne, Ind.; brother Steven (Yi-fong) Popp of Las Vegas, Nev.; grandchildren: Grace Heflin and Brooks Heflin; brother-in-law David (Donnie) Lubeck of Tomball, Texas; extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Betty Popp; parents-in-law, Kenneth Lubeck and Doris Russell; and brothers-in-law, Terry Lubeck and Kim Lubeck.
