Former Alta-Aurelia preps team up to win Ride-Run event

Two former Alta-Aurelia prep standouts and now collegiate track and field athletes teamed up to win the 45th annual Star Spangled Spectacular Ride-Run Around the Lake last Thursday.

Trey Engelmann and Teagan Meyer finished the 11.1-mile race with a time of 56 minutes, 13 seconds. They won the race by 7 seconds over The Dutchmen.

Engelmann runs track at Northwestern College while Meyer attends Concordia. The pair have participated in the Ride-Run before, but this is their first time competing together.

Campfire Steaks was the first coed team to finish with a time of 1:01:29. Sparklers was the first female team to finish with a time of 1:09:23.

Sixty-one teams of two completed the race. It is a significant increase over last year’s 49 participants, said race organizer Keri Schuelke.

Conditions were ideal with a slight breeze and the temperature below 70  degrees.
