Edwin Peterson

Edwin Dale Peterson, 90, of Alta, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on March 9, 2024.

Visitation will take place Wednesday, March 13, from 1-2:30 p.m. at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to Cherokee Regional Hospice or Alta United Methodist Church.

Ed was born Oct. 11, 1933 in Linn Grove, to Elmer and Pearl Peterson. He graduated from Highview School in BV County. He served in the Army from 1955-1957.

Ed married Deloris Britt in 1955, having children Julie and Shallee.

He married Shirley Landhuis on Nov. 30, 1994.

Ed managed the SuperAmerica gas station in Storm Lake until purchasing a golf cart business which he ran until retirement. Ed enjoyed watching wrestling, bowling and enjoyed his Wednesday morning men’s coffee club. His passion was golf, golf and more golf, in which he shot a hole-in-one.

Ed is survived by his daughters: Julie (Bob) Wagener of Maquoketa; Shallee (Russ) Lessmeier of St. Louis, Mo.; wife Shirley of Alta; stepchildren: Cheryl (Peter) Southard of Woodbury, Minn.; Mike (Nancy) Landhuis of Orange City; Michele (Gary) Schultz of Waverly; Jennifer (Steve) Johnston of Meridian, Idaho; grandchildren: Eric Wagener, Katie (Nick) Ede, Stephanie (Nick) Kleeschulte and Aryn Lessmeier (Adam Finger); step grandchildren: Kathryn (Sam) Dunn, Chris (Jayne) Southard, Josh (Kelsey) Landhuis, Zach (Trisha) Landhuis, Katie (Nick) Stimson, Ashley (Ian Wreisner) Schultz, Anna Schultz, Jessica (Josh) Waller, Liz (Kyle) Rotz, Alexia Johnston and Makenna Johnston; great-grandchildren: Ethan, Eli and Anna Ede; Leah and Levi Finger; step great-grandchildren: Henrik, Rosalind and Hugo Southard-Dunn; Logan and Lexa Landhuis; Ella, Zoey and Arya Landhuis; Kendall Stimson; Jerrod and Finley Waller; Karver and Elly Rotz; sister Doris “Jeannie” Stange; niece Connie Kahnke; nephews, Tom Shewell and Don Peterson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Rose Dahl and Marge Shewell; and brother Leslie.
