Storm Lake voters will be asked Nov. 7 to choose from among four candidates to fill three seats on the city council. If you go by yard signs, newcomer Meg McKeon has put up the most apparent effort. That figures. McKeon is a serious person and a hard worker who studies issues. She wants to serve, and it shows. She is a former university administrator who understood and lived by sound budgets. She is an advocate for diversity and inclusion.
Incumbent council members Kevin McKinney and Maria Ramos are running for re-election. McKinney was born for community service, whether through his church or the sheriff’s office or the council. He is earnest and amiable. He understands the concerns of working people. Ramos is an important voice for immigrants, and we hope she uses it more in a second term as she has gained perspective and experience.
Councilman Tyson Rice is the fourth candidate. Voters should allow him to pursue other interests full-time for the reasons we have stated over the past eight years. Mainly, that he became a bully somewhere along the way. Enough.
McKeon, McKinney and Ramos would be fine choices for the city council.
