Dean A. Struss, 68, of Albert City died Aug. 27, 2024, at his residence.
Dean's wishes were no funeral services. Visitation for family and friends will take place Thursday, Sept. 5, from 4-7 p.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall in Albert City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Upper Des Moines at 620 Michigan St., Storm Lake, IA 50588. Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.
Dean Albert Struss was born Aug. 25, 1956, to Cyril and Evelyn (Nielsen) Struss in Tyler, Minn. He attended school in Tyler, graduating in 1974. On June 4, 1974, Dean enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving as Senior Airman until his discharge Aug. 19, 1977. Throughout his life, Dean was very spiritual and you could find him reading the Bible and reflecting on God’s Word.
On March 2, 1984, Dean was united in marriage to Colleen Bjork at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert City. To this union, four children were born: Kirk, Travis, Erik and Alex.
Dean served on the Albert City Fire Department from 1981 to 1994, Albert City Ambulance Crew from 1981 to 1992, and was a member of the Albert City Legion Post. He was the owner and operator of Curtis Electric/Struss in Albert City from 1981 to 2002. In 1989, Dean and his family proudly started building their family home. After closing his business, Dean worked as a custodian at St. Mary's and then overnights at Walmart. In his free time, Dean enjoyed sudoku, reading, listening to music and singing along. He also enjoyed playing and working on computers and games. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Dean is survived by his wife Colleen Struss of Albert City; children: Kirk Struss of Tucson, Ariz.; Travis (Janna) Struss of Aberdeen, S.d.; Erik (Audrey) Struss of Warrensburg, Mo.; Alex (Kayla) Struss of Lima, N.Y.; brothers: Alan Struss of Owatonna, Minn.; Daryl Struss of Sioux City; Keith (Janet) Struss of Albert City; grandchildren: Benson and Ellie Struss; Kyle and Logan Struss; Ethan, Axel and Emery Struss; brothers-in-law, Roger (Ethel) Bjork and Charles (Bev) Bjork; sisters-in-law, Clarice Shaw and Corlys Gehling; extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather Clyde Larsen; granddaughter Alyssa Struss; parents-in-law, Carl and Cora Bjork; sisters-in-law, Carol Zaruba and Carol Bjork; and brothers-in-law, Jerry Shaw and Gerald Gehling.
