Dean Brock was born May 9, 1929, to Charley and Grace (Sassman) Brock near Sioux Rapids. He received his education at Sioux Rapids school, graduating in 1946. Dean served two years in the United States Marine Corps from 1946 until 1948, during World War II, spending most of that time on Guam.

Dean was united in marriage to Melva Brock on July 17, 1949. They were blessed with a daughter, Sheila.

In 1953, Dean and Melva were baptized and confirmed in their faith at Faith Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids. They later transferred to Grace Lutheran Church when they moved to Storm Lake.

Dean was a faithful member of Grace Lutheran Church. He served as an elder as well as numerous other offices of the congregation. He was active in men's club, dartball, Bible classes and enjoyed singing in the choir. He was a member of LLL (Lutheran Laymen's League) and held several offices for both the Grace and zone chapters.

Dean worked at Hygrade Foods in Storm Lake for over 30 years. He was the caretaker at Storm Lake Cemetery for 10 years. After retirement, he continued to serve the Lord for several years by "building churches for the Lord," working on five building projects with Laborers for Christ.

Dean was a sports fan, especially of the Twins, Vikings and Iowa Hawkeyes. He enjoyed the outdoors and liked spending time boating, water skiing and fishing. On the occasions he had to stay inside, you could find him tinkering, woodworking or doing crossword puzzles. He loved traveling, making music, dancing and spending time with his family.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents, Charley and Grace Brock; stepmother Charlotte; beloved wife of nearly 75 years, Melva Brock; brothers: Arnold Brock, Donald Brock and his wife Sylvia Brock; sisters: Mable Brock and LuVerne Brophy; brothers-in-law: Wesley Brock; Raymond Brock and his wife Loretta Brock; sister-in-law Donlene Brock; nephew Donnie Brock; niece Doris Harvey; and great-nephew Jason Brock.
