City water conservation: water on the weekends

The City of Storm Lake has issued adjustments to the Mandatory Water Conservation measures that will be in place through July 31.

According to a news release from the city, lawn watering is permitted on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, outside the hours of 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Residents should use sprinklers efficiently so as to not waste water on sidewalks and sprinklers. Also, watering things like gardens should not be done during peak heat of the day as water will evaporate quickly.

Residential car washing is to be done anytime during the day on Saturdays as Sundays, given lower water demand on those days. Residents are still asked to be mindful of washing vehicles in a way to prevent water from being wasted by running into the storm sewers.

Power washing for either businesses or homes will also only be permitted on Saturdays and Sundays. For any power washing during the week, contact the city for permission. Call 712-732-8000 for more information.

Any pools or saunas may be filled or refilled on Saturdays on Sundays. Adding water to replace evaporation loss is allowed as needed.

Continue to avoid using water to clean driveways and sidewalks. Instead, use brooms or blowers to clean concrete surfaces.

The conservation efforts will be re-evaluated at the end of July and adjusted as necessary.
