Byron J. Loving, 92, of Storm Lake died Monday, Oct. 16, 2023 at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
Funeral services will take place Sunday, Oct. 22, at 1 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow a luncheon in Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. Visitation will be held Saturday, Oct. 21, from 5-7 p.m. at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake.
Byron Joseph Loving was born July 14, 1931 to Joseph and Helen (Carlson) Loving in Storm Lake. Byron attended Albert City Consolidated School, graduating in 1949. Following high school, Byron attended the University of Iowa in Iowa City for three semesters before transferring to Buena Vista College where he earned his bachelor's degree in business. Upon graduation, Byron was employed by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago as a bank examiner in five Midwest states. He was able to transfer to the Iowa office in 1961. During this time, Byron was promoted to Senior Examiner.
In February 1951, Byron enlisted in the United States Air Force where he proudly served his country stateside during the Korean War. He received a Good Conduct Medal and was honorably discharged in February 1955.
On Nov. 16, 1957, Byron was united in marriage to Barbara Ann Anderson at First Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids. Together, they were blessed with two children, Laura Ann and Charles Byron.
In 1973, Byron worked as credit manager at Marquette National Bank in Minneapolis, Minn. and set up a credit department at Bremer Bank in St. Paul, Minn. Byron and Barbara moved to Waterloo and Byron became the manager of the lending division at National Bank of Waterloo. In 1997, he retired and moved to Storm Lake where he purchased a stock cow farm east of Sioux Rapids. He enjoyed doing this until he sold the farm to his nephew in 2008.
Byron was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Storm Lake, American Legion Post #299 of Albert City and he served on the Storm Lake Airport Board. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, camping and traveling to nearly every state. Byron and Barbara enjoyed going on cruises to the Caribbean Islands and a memorable trip through the Panama Canal. More than anything, Byron cherished time spent with his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Laura Ann Loving of Maple Grove, Minn.; Charles (Katy) Loving of Portland, Ore.; grandchildren: Nicholas Khoury, Thomas Khoury, Anthony Johnson, Stephanie Johnson, Anna Loving and Samuel Loving; great-grandchild Elias James Khoury; extended family and friends.
Byron was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Helen Loving; wife Barbara Loving; infant son Charles; sisters, Adelaide (James) Bersbach and LaVonne Hoffman; and brother Lael Loving.
