Bill Bainbridge

George W. “Bill” Bainbridge, Sr., 80, of Alta passed away on Sunday, Dec. 18, 2022 at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center.

Private family memorial services will be held. A celebration of life service for the public will be held later on next year. Online condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com.

Bill was born on Dec. 1, 1942 to George and Francis (Carrington) Bainbridge at Emmetsburg. He attended Washta Schools, graduating in 1961. He served in the Iowa National Guard from March 1963 until October 1969.

He was united in marriage on Jan. 3, 1965 to Melva Waldron at Washta United Methodist Church. Bill held many jobs over the years including being a mechanic, an appliance repairman and working road construction for the street department. He was a heavy equipment operator for the City of Storm Lake, welder, maintenance repair at Spectra, and a maintenance repairman at the canning factory. He retired in 2004.

He was a member of Storm Lake United Methodist Church and the Boy Scouts.

In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, sewing, gardening, mechanic work, making tarps for semi-trucks and spending time with his family.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; grandson William James Bainbridge; and brother-in-law Rick Waldron.

He is survived by his wife Melva of Alta; children: Sheila (Tim) Geary of Sioux City; Bill Jr. (Carla) Bainbridge of Early; Pamela (Ruben) Kearney of Alta; Mary (LeRoy) Burkhurst of Alta; Robert “Bob” (Mary) Bainbridge of Albert City; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren: Paul Bainbridge and his daughters Hazel and Finnlee; Brandon Geary; Anthoney Bainbridge and his daughter Ashton; Scott Geary; Brittney Geary; Arthur Bainbridge; and one brother, Steve Bainbridge of St. Paul, Neb.
