Alta-Aurelia drubs George-Little Rock in district tourney

Cale Brechwald fired a two-hit shutout and Sam Sennert collected three hits to help Alta-Aurelia beat George-Little Rock 10-0 in a Class 1A district semifinal game on Tuesday at Alta.

Alta-Aurelia, now 21-7, will play Kingsley-Pierson (17-11) in a district final game on Saturday at 7 p.m. in Alta.

The Warriors jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first two innings, scoring two in the first inning and three in the second.

Alta-Aurelia finished with 12 hits in the game. Sennert led the way with three singles. Gavin Sleezer and Maddux McCoy added two hits apiece while Brechwald, Camden Reinert, Jaxson Page, Gabe Olsen and Brayden Marshall all had one hit.

Marshall drove in two runs while Brechwald, Sleezer, Sennert, Reinert, Olsen and McCoy all had one RBI. Olsen, Brechwald and Sennert all scored two runs.

Brechwald allowed two hits, walked one and struck out seven.

“Any playoff win is a good win and I was happy with how our guys came ready to play,” Alta-Aurelia coach Ryan Burkhart said. “I thought we were aggressive on the bases early and it was nice to put some runs up for Cale Brechwald early so he could pitch with a lead. It felt like we had hits all up and down our lineup, and every guy contributed to this win in one way or another. Our defense was also really solid and made plays. We are excited to keep our season going and be playing in front of our home crowd for a district championship on Saturday night.”
