Troy Dale Valentine, 78, of Sioux Rapids died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2023 at his home.
Memorial services will take place Saturday, Dec. 30, at 1 p.m. at Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids. Burial will be in Lone Tree Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, Dec. 29, from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home in Sioux Rapids.
On March 14, 1945 in Spencer, John and Helen Valentine were blessed with the birth of a son, Troy Dale Valentine. Troy attended school in Sioux Rapids.
Troy was united in marriage to Carol Elaine Garner in Jackson, Minn., on Oct. 30, 1965. They were blessed with a son, Tracey. Troy and Carol made their home in Sioux Rapids for 58 years.
Troy served as the Sioux Rapids Fire Chief and worked as a supervisor for Ranco Fertiservice in Sioux Rapids. He owned his own welding shop and Valentine’s Towing Service for over 40 years. Troy’s passion was hobby stock car races, winning many races and track championships at Buena Vista Raceway, Jackson Speedway and Algona Raceway where he raced alongside his son Tracey, mentoring him along the way. Troy had a big heart and loved helping area farmers and anyone he could lend a helping hand to. In his free time, he enjoyed camping and boating. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Left to cherish Troy’s memory include his son Tracey (Desiree) Valentine of Pomeroy; sister Shirley Koster of Milford; nephew Donnie (Valerie) Koster of Lake City, Fla.; niece Julie (James) Koster of Milford; granddaughter Courtney Morales; great-grandson Jayden; great-granddaughter Alicia of Sioux Rapids; step-grandchildren: Nate (Lauren) Botine of Harlan; Matt (Kaylee) Botine of Storm Lake; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Richard (Sharon) Garner of Pocahontas; Maureen Luchsinger of Lake Havasu, Ariz.; Judy (Dan) Noma of Chandler, Ariz.; Larry Garner of Polk City; Dean (Linda) Garner of Spencer; Sandy (Jay) Pettyjohn of Ottumwa; extended family and friends.
Troy was preceded in death by his parents, John and Helen Valentine; wife Carol Valentine; and brother Bill Valentine.
