Terrill L. “Terry” Galvin, 65, of Aurelia passed away on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024, at his residence in Aurelia.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, Feb. 9, at 11 a.m. at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee. Pastor David Lyons will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee. Visitation with the family present will be held on Friday morning beginning at 10 a.m. until service time at Boothby Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left at www.boothbyfuneral.com.
Terry was born on March 2, 1958, to Paul and Lorraine (Meredith) Galvin. He grew up on the farm north of Alta. He attended Alta Community School, where he played multiple sports and continues to hold the school record for the pole vault. He graduated in 1976. Shortly after high school, he earned his pilot’s license. He graduated in 1987 with a Police Science Technology degree from Western Iowa Tech and then attended the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy, graduating in 1987.
Terry worked as a farmer and then went to the Iowa Police Academy and served as an Alta Police officer. He worked for Alta Implement before spending 24 years with the Buena Vista County Secondary Roads Department, retiring in December 2023. He always took pride in his work.
Terry was a proud father to Nicole and loved her and her family dearly. He loved spending time with and attending his grandchildren’s events. He was a jokester and loved the simple life of grilling meals and spending time around a bonfire. He was an animal lover, especially dogs.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Lorraine Galvin.
Terry will lovingly be remembered by his daughter and son-in-law, Nicole and Aaron Hinkeldey of Aurelia; three grandchildren: Harlan, Davis, and Elleanor Hinkel-dey; sister Tangy (Bill) Mack of Storm Lake; niece and nephew, Mandy (John) Harder of Storm Lake and Kelly (Hannah) Rydberg of Schaller; special friend Becky Neiman of Marshalltown.
