June Bowers

June Bowers, 93, of Storm Lake died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2024, at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake.

Memorial services will take place Saturday, March 9, at 1 p.m. at Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in Storm Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, March 8, from 5-7 p.m. at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Lakeside Presbyterian Church. June Arlene (Ellwanger) Bowers was born June 2, 1930 along with her twin sister, Joyce, at the family farm north of Lake View. She was the daughter of Fred Otto and Carrie (Sauter) Ellwanger. Through eighth grade, she attended a rural one room school house with Joyce and was taught by an older sister. She attended Lake View High School, graduating in 1947. June attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, graduating in 1950 with a two year teaching degree. She began her teaching career at Fairview Consolidated School. She also taught in Albert City, Dakota City, Boone Valley and Camanche. June worked at the Gingerbread House in Storm Lake for several years.

On June 10, 1956, June was united in marriage to Dean Oliver Bowers in Lake View. They were blessed with two children: Nancy Ann and Bruce Alan.

June was an active member of Lakeside Presbyterian Church. She taught Sunday School, helped with Bible School, Circles and PW Women’s group and as a Deacon. She enjoyed golfing, reading, crocheting, playing cards, doing Jumbos and other word games, and putting together puzzles. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends.

In death, she rejoins her husband Dean Bowers; daughter Nancy Ann Mulder; parents, Fred and Carrie Ellwanger; her twin sister Joyce (Joy) Patten; siblings: Mabel Webb, Alice Garrels, Evelyn Powell, Lucille Schultz, Fred Otto Ellwanger and Everett Ellwanger; and many other family members who she loved dearly.

Left to cherish June’s memory are her son Bruce Alan Bowers of Chicago, Ill.; grandson Garrison Wade Mulder of Sioux Falls, S.D.; son-in-law Wade Mulder and wife, Angie, of Sioux Falls, S.D.; sister-in-law Margaret Ellwanger of Ladysmith, Wis.; many loved and cherished nieces and nephews; and special friends who became as her family: Dale Wetzel and family; Deb and Bruce Young and family; Jackie and Dale Vogl and family.
