Irene Marie Chase, 95, of Albert City died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2024 at Pocahontas Community Hospital.
Funeral services will take place Saturday, Feb. 3, at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake. Burial will be in Cedar Cemetery in Fonda. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.
Irene Marie Alpers was born June 2, 1928 in St. Louis, Mo., to Charles and Dorothy (Wissmann) Alpers. She was baptized at Timothy Lutheran Church in St. Louis, Mo. Irene confirmed her faith on Nov. 30, 1941 at First Lutheran Church in Fonda. She graduated from Fonda Public School on May 17, 1945 in Fonda.
Irene was united in marriage to William T. Haenel on June 7, 1947 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in St. Louis, Mo. William passed away on May 22, 1965. Irene married Donald Chase on Sept. 2, 1995 at St. Jacob Lutheran Church in Jennings, Mo. Donald passed away Aug. 14, 1996.
Irene worked as an executive secretary in manufacturing and raised her children. Following retirement, Irene enjoyed playing cards and Bingo where she was well known for supplying prizes. A good cookie could always brighten Irene’s day. More than anything, Irene enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Irene will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Left to cherish the memory of Irene include her four daughters: Karen (Robert) Kiehl, Kathleen (Kenneth) Horn, Pamela (Leonard) Hortter and Cynthia (William) Gleason; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Garton; nieces and nephews; bonus family: Peggy Gustafson, Kathy Chase, Sue (Mark) Graves and Becky (Dave) Klatt; eight grandchildren and their families; extended family and friends.
Welcoming Irene into heaven are her parents, Charles and Dorothy Alpers; husbands, William T. Haenel and Donald Chase; brothers, Gerald Alpers and Gilbert “Gib” Alpers; and bonus son, Charles Chase.
