Clarence W. Krepps, Jr., 77, of Alta died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2023 at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
There will be no services at this time. Fratzke and Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
Clarence was born Oct. 19, 1946 to Clarence W. and Doris (Taflinger) Krepps in Macomb, Ill. He was raised in Bushnell, Ill., where he attended school at Bushnell-Prairie City High School until his graduation in 1964. He attended college at Western Illinois University where he was also an employee. Clarence graduated in 1974 with a degree in public administration and political science. He served as the first Storm Lake city administrator from 1978-1996. From 1996-1998, Clarence served as city administrator in Kalispell, Mont. He returned to Storm Lake to work as public relations manager for Kuehl and Payer from 1997 until his retirement in 2015.
On Feb. 5, 1966, Clarence was united in marriage to Marsha E. Cobb at First Baptist Church in Macomb, Ill. They were blessed with two children, Vincent Matthew and Valora Michelle.
Clarence entered the United States Army on Feb. 14, 1966 where he completed basic training at Fort Hood in Texas. He spent most of his service stationed in Baumholder, Germany, and was discharged in January 1968.
In his free time, Clarence loved golfing. This was hard for him to give up when he could no longer play. His last golfing season, he played close to 300 rounds. He loved spectator sports, especially the Packers, Nascar, Formula One and Indie cars. He was known as a negotiator, stubborn and always up for a good joke. His mother said, “He never knew a stranger!”
Clarence is survived by his beloved wife Marsha E. Cobb of Macomb, Ill.; children: Vincent Krepps (Jeanna) of San Antonio, Texas; and Valora Dixon of Orlando, Fla.; grandchildren: Trevor (Kate) Krepps, Tayla Krepps, Tyler Krepps, Tristan Krepps, Ashlyn Dixon, Jaiden Dixon and Gage Dixon; great-grandchild Kaden Krepps; brother-in-law Michael (Christie) Cobb; extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Dorris Krepps; and parents-in-law, Dean and Shirley Cobb.
