A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, Nov. 25, at 2 p.m. at Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake. A private graveside service will be held prior to the memorial service.
Charlie was born Dec. 2, 1943 to Joseph and Dorothy Roy in Austin, Minn. He was the second of four children and graduated from Storm Lake High School in 1961. On Feb. 23, 1963, Charlie was united in marriage to Karen Engel. He joined the U.S. Army in the same year and served as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division stationed in Germany where he and Karen had their first child, Randel. After honorably discharging from the military, he and Karen returned to Storm Lake and were blessed with two more children, Carrie and Kelli.
Charlie raised and supported his family in Storm Lake by working at Hygrade, owning and operating Charlie O’s, he was a dispatcher at Commercial Services and a Storm Lake School District employee before retiring. He was a faithful member of Amvets Club #66 and served as Commander of the club, as well as a Commander of the Honor Guard. But above all, Charlie was a comedian. Charlie often did magic tricks, told hilarious stories and jokes, and was very passionate about attending all the weddings, high school graduations, college graduations, military graduations or special events for his and Karen’s eight grandchildren. Charlie loved to play golf with his friends and was an amazing cheesecake maker.
