Betty Bowen

Funeral services for Betty J. Bowen, 95, of Aurelia will be Friday, June 14, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Aurelia, with Pastor Linda Morris officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Aurelia. Visitation will be Thursday, June 13, from 4-7 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with the family being present. Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia is in charge of arrangements.

Betty Jean Johnson was born May 5, 1929, at Alta, the daughter of Victor and Mabel (Johnson) Johnson. She attended school in Alta, graduating in 1947. On Oct. 22, 1950, Betty married Gilbert Bowen at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. To this union she became the proud mother of Craig, Jeff and Jan. She worked as a cook at Aurelia School, then became the head cook at Sunset Knoll Nursing Home in Aurelia from 1976 until retiring in 2003. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Aurelia. Betty was a member of a couple card clubs, and was very active in Sunset Knoll Auxiliary, as long as her health permitted. She loved to cook and her main focus in life was caring for her husband and children and their families.

Betty died on Friday, June 7, 2024, at the Accura Healthcare of Aurelia with her family by her side. Whe had been a resident since November 2019.  

Preceding Betty in death were her parents, and husband Gilbert on March 16, 2016.

Survivors include her children: Craig Bowen (Colleen Kill) of Otsego, Minn.; Jeff Bowen (Mary Gontjes) of Aurelia; and Jan (Warren) Mitchell of Aurelia; xix grandchildren: Sarah (Chris) Ewert of Harrisburg, S.D.; Scott (Kara) Bowen of Harrisburg, S.D.; Glen (Janae) Bowen of Norwalk; Jenny (Brent) Fassler of Aurelia; Katie (John) Edwards of Correctionville; and Lisa Mitchell of Cherokee; nine great-grandchildren; other close family members; Maria Bowen of Aurelia and Janet Frantz of Alta; the staff and volunteers of the Accura Healthcare facility where Betty was lovingly taken care of.
