Betsy Lenz

Betsy Lenz, 73, of Alta died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2024, at Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.

Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 26, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Alta. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery in Alta. Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Alta was in charge of the arrangements.

Betsy: beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and dear friend to many has gone on to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Betsy worked two, sometimes three jobs most of her life. Beginning at age 15, she worked as a babysitter. Her first full time job was at La Pizza in Storm Lake. In the late 1970s, she worked at Vilas turkey plant as a wing cutter in white meat, then as secretary on a shipping dock where she met her future husband, Ken Lenz, who worked in the freezer.

Betsy married Ken Sept. 2, 1978 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Pomeroy.

Betsy worked various food related jobs, including at Les and Carolyn’s Pizza in Alta as a waitress. She also worked as a waitress for Larry and Sharon Huntley at Parkway Café in Alta. She then worked at the Depot Steakhouse in Alta as a cook for Bob and Karen Pender. Betsy enjoyed any opportunity to work at Alta school cafeteria as a substitute cook and worked until her health issues led to her retirement in the mid 2000s.

Church was an important part of Betsy’s life. She enjoyed being a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Alta where she was a member of Ladies Quilters and was a mentor to young children. She enjoyed game day at church.

Betsy enjoyed watching high school sports activities, attending auto racing, and she especially enjoyed visiting and spending time with family and friends.

Betsy is survived by her husband of 45 years, Ken Lenz of Alta; son Kevin Lenz of Alta; daughter Melinda (Mike) Behrens of Anthon; grandchildren: Madison Behrens; Cyle Behrens; Cole (Sage) Behrens and their children, Lawson and Crue Behrens; Corey (Keylee) and their children, Josiah and Aniah; sister Celia Miskevitch of Wylie, Texas; brothers: John DeMan, Willie DeMan, Henry Jr. (Chris) DeMan and David (Cheryl) DeMan; uncle Gilbert Burgers; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Minnie DeMan; brother Dick DeMan; grandson Cody Behrens in 1993; sister-in-law Vicki DeMan; aunts, uncles and cousins.
