Walgreens served with suit by truck driver

A Mount Vernon, Ill., truck driver is suing a Walgreens distribution center for career-threatening injuries he suffered while unloading freight at the retailer’s Storm Lake location.

A petition filed in Buena Vista County District Court last week alleges Bryan Basler suffered “severe injuries to (his) lumbar anatomy” in September 2019 as a result of falling freight from a tractor trailer. The product was loaded at Walgreens’ distribution center in Mount Vernon and slated for transport to the company’s Storm Lake location.

Basler’s attorney, Darin Luneckas of Cedar Rapids, said his client’s injuries “will prevent him from working again in the future.”

“Walgreens failed to properly supervise its employees’ loading of product in said trailer,” Luneckas wrote in the petition. “Walgreens failed to warn (Basler) that totes were stacked on top of paper product that were incapable of holding the weight of the totes.”

The company hasn’t responded to the petition. A spokesperson for Walgreens didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
