Sioux Central volleyball hosted their second annual Pink Out Night Thursday, Sept. 16. During this event they hosted a silent auction of baked goods provided by players and their parents. Fans are able to bid on each baked good throughout the JVR, JV and into the third set of the varsity match. All money raised is donated back to area hospitals.

This year the team was able to top last year’s event with $550 raised in a short three hours.

The Sioux Central Volleyball team voted to donate half to Spencer Abben Cancer Center in Spencer and the other half to Buena Vista Regional Medical Center’s AWARE Program. This program helps with ongoing fundraising efforts to benefit patients receiving cancer treatment at BVRMC. Both hospitals donated several breast cancer goodies that our players were able to throw out to the crowd prior to the varsity match.

The crowd was honored to have Shelly Rock and Kayla Tjaden give a short presentation before the varsity match to help raise awareness for breast cancer.

The girls work hard to make the event come together. Proceeds from past fundraisers have helped raise money for pink jerseys to wear for this event. The girls paint signs and help set up for this event.

“We cannot thank the area hospitals enough that helped us plan the Pink Out, Shelly and Kayla for speaking, our parents for the donations of baked goods and our fans for helping us raise money,” says Sara Grossnickle, Rebel head volleyball coach.
