“Our first matchup against Spencer was our biggest struggle of the day,” Sioux Central coach Sara Grossnickle said. “We couldn’t get our offense going and we struggled on serve receive. We allowed too many runs. Our next matchup against Mason City we were able to figure out our serve receive, which allowed us to pick up offense. Halle Laursen led our team in kills with Alyse Terrell following.

“Bishop Heelan and West Lyon were our next two matches of the day,” Grossnickle added. “Although the scores may not reflect our effort, the girls battled hard. We played great defensively against these teams and really made each of them battle for their points.

“Although we ended the day 1-3, I cannot complain how the girls battled against schools that are much larger than us. We were up against 3A and 4A schools that have solid volleyball traditions. We came out knowing what we need to continue to work on in practice this week to hopefully come out with a win versus GTRA on Thursday for our big Pink Out event.”
