N-F serves up victory over SM

Mary Walker went 21-for-26 in hitting with 13 kills, was 6-for-8 in serving and charted six digs to help Newell-Fonda beat Twin Lakes Conference rival Storm Lake St. Mary’s last Thursday at Newell.

Scores were 25-8, 25-18, 25-7.

Kierra Jungers went 12-for-13 in hitting with eight kills for the Mustangs, now 23-3. Emma Erickson was 12-for-13 with six kills, Macy Sievers 16-for-20 with five kills and Kinzee Hinders went 8-for-11 with four kills.

Sophie Stewart netted 16 set assists while Anna Bellcock added 15. Sievers led in digs with 14. Stewart had 10, Isabel Bartek five and Bellcock four. Jungers totaled three blocks.

Stewart led the serving effort by going 20-for-20 with three aces. Bellcock was 13-for-14, Hinders 15-for-17 and Jungers was 6-for-8.

“The players covered the court well on defense,” Newell-Fonda coach Marilyn Murra said. “We also served well and hit well.”
