Newell-Fonda had one relay team capture gold and Storm Lake St. Mary’s Danika Demers won an individual event to highlight area performances in the Jim Yunek Relays last Thursday at Lake City.
Pocahontas Area and IKM-Manning tied for first with 98 points. Newell-Fonda was seventh with 49 and St. Mary’s ninth with 22.
In the field events, Newell-Fonda’s Lexi Roberts finished second in the shot put with a throw of 33 feet, 4 inches. Newell-Fonda’s Kinzee Hinders was third in the long jump in 13-11. Newell-Fonda’s Lindsey Wolf took third in the high jump with a leap of 4-8.
Newell-Fonda finished second in the sprint medley relay with a time of 1 minute, 57.01 seconds.
St. Mary’s Karla Limones and Bianca Limones placed fourth and fifth in the 3,000 meters with times of 12:56.19 and 13:13.84.
Newell-Fonda took sixth in the 4×800 relay with a time of 12:22.42. The Mustangs’ distance medley relay team of Mia Walker, Mary Walker, Macy Sievers and Kierra Jungers finished first in a time of 4:42.45.
Hinders finished second in the 400 meters with a time of 1:07.49. The Mustangs placed fifth in the 4×200 relay with a time of 2:04.9.
Demers finished third in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.04 seconds. She won the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 1:10.42.
