Marvin Carlberg

Marvin Willard Carlberg, Early, was born in Silvercreek Township on May 9, 1935, to Willard and Tessie (Coalter) Carlberg. He was a farmer, an Army veteran, auctioneer, school bus driver, devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, a devoted son and brother, and a very private person. In that respect and with his wishes, we will keep this obituary short.

He is survived by his loving wife of almost 59 years, Lois Elaine (McManigal), or “L.E.” as he often called her; three children: Rhonda (Carey) Schmidt of Schaller; Daniel (Kerri Almaas) Carlberg of Eastsound, Wash.; Loree (Mike) Vander Zwaag of Orange City; five grandchildren:  Beth (Mike) Smith of Schaller; Lisa (Claude) Smith of Custer, S.D.; Lexi Schmidt (fiancé Spencer Schwanz) of Sac City; Justin Carlberg (Kelly Patience) of Everett, Wash.; Joshua Vander Zwaag of Blue Springs, Mo.; five great-grandchildren:  Layton, Wesley and Eden Smith of Schaller;  Jameson Carlberg of Everett, Wash.; and Baby Smith (due Nov. 2022) of Custer, S.D.; sister Darlene Wright;  sisters-in-law: Judith Boyer, Gloria McManigal and Marcia McManigal; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends that he cherished.

Preceding him in death are his parents; his parents-in-law Donald and Lucille (Harrington) McManigal; sisters: Delores Carlberg and Vivian (Bill) Anderson; brothers-in-law: Robert Wright, Frank Koth, Raymond (Charlotte) Miller, David McManigal and Melvan Boyer; and grandson James Carlberg.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, at Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City, with Rev. Ron Johnson officiating. Burial will take place at Galva Township Cemetery under the direction of Farber & Otteman Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
