Kingsley-Pierson too much for Sioux Central

Kingsley-Pierson scored four runs in the top of the second inning to build an early lead and the fourth-ranked Panthers never looked back as they defeated Sioux Central 12-2 in a nonconference game last Thursday at Peterson.

Sioux Central scored both of its runs in the third inning to pull within 4-2, but Kingsley-Pierson plated two runs in the fourth and six in the fifth to pull away.

The Rebels had five hits in the game. Dakota Deuschle had two singles. Gibson Olson, Jacob Hargens and Connor Christian each added one hit apiece. Deuschle and Christian each drove in a run.

Konnor McKeever took the loss. He allowed five hits and six runs, two of which were earned, walked four and struck out one in four innings.

“Even though the score was 12-2, I didn’t think we played a bad game,” Sioux Central coach Alan Vasher said. “We had a couple of errors on the defensive side, but they also did a great job of taking advantage of situational hitting. We competed well, but I thought we looked a little sluggish from the start. We will regroup and finish up on a strong note this week.

“We had an abnormal end of the week and I’m proud of the way the boys handled it, and where we are as a team right now,” Vasher added. “I do want to congratulate our seniors. Connor Christian and Gavin Morton have done a great job of leading this season, and their efforts and work ethic are noticed. We are going to miss them next year, but wish them the best.”
