Soumetho shot 3 times outside bar

Lena Soumetho

Former Storm Laker Lena Soumetho was the victim of a shooting outside the H-Bar in Iowa City on Sunday, Aug. 7 at 2:24 a.m.

Yasmine Bourommavong, like Soumetho a fellow 2018 SLHS graduate, has organized a GoFundMe account with a goal of raising $5,000 for her friend.

“My friend Lena was an innocent victim of a gun shooting in Iowa City over the weekend,” Bourommavong said, requesting that the Storm Lake Times Pilot share the information. “Thankfully she is stable and recovering from multiple gun wounds. She has a long road ahead of her and we are hoping to ease her financially for medical bills and missing work.”

Soumetho was shot three times outside the bar. The suspected shooter remains at large. Iowa City police said the shooter was last seen fleeing the area in a vehicle but intentionally offered no additional information about the incident, according to the Cedar Rapids Gazette, including the vehicle or shooter description or the victim’s identity.

Nobody else was injured, police said.
