Cub Scout Rain Gutter Regatta

An inflatable raceway was used for their sail boats.

Earlier this fall Cub Scouts of Pack 105 participated in a Rain Gutter Regatta on the grounds of the Storm Lake United Methodist Church. This event gives scouts a chance to make model sail boats and race them by propelling the crafts with “wind” created by blowing through straws. The event takes its name from the fact that traditionally rain gutters were used for the raceways. Like most scouting units today, Pack 105 used an official Boy Scouts of America inflatable raceway for their event, measuring about 10 feet in length. Excitement ran high among the boat builders and their families at the regatta. Before racing commenced new scouts had the opportunity to lead the Pack in the presentation of the flags that marks the beginning of scout events and meetings.

Pack 105 serves Storm Lake and the surrounding area. Scouts learn outdoor and other life skills, while building character, serving the community and having fun. If you have a child in grades K-5 interested in joining Cub Scouts, email Cubmaster Kyle Bartz at bartzk001@hotmail.com.
