Community Education Youth sports


Youth volleyball program scheduled

Community Education will be offering youth volleyball for fifth and sixth grade girls. The program will run from September through October. The cost of the program is $25. Storm Lake will participate in the Northwest Iowa Volleyball League. Due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, the league will be structured so that we will practice and scrimmage teams. Practices will be held on Monday and Thursday evenings. Community Education is in need of volunteer coaches in order to make the program work. If interested in coaching, contact Community Education. Junior Hitters program to be held

Community Education will be offering Junior Hitters, a program for grades 1-4 designed to introduce skills involved in the game of volleyball. The program will be held at the Storm Lake Elementary School on the following dates: Sept. 14, 16, 21, 23, 28 and 30 from 6-6:45 p.m. for first and second graders, and 7-7:45 p.m. for third and fourth graders. The registration fee is $10. The registration deadline is Friday, Sept. 10. Flyers are now available and will be distributed to the students in all of the Storm Lake Schools on the first day of school. For more information, contact Community Education at 732-5711. Youth flag football to be offered

Community Education will be offering youth flag football this fall. Practices start Sept. 2 with the first games being played on Sept. 18. Practices will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and games held on Saturday mornings. Flyers are now available and will be distributed to students in all of the Storm Lake Schools. The deadline to register is Aug. 30. Grades 1-6 may participate. Practices/games will be held at the Field of Dreams. There is a $25 registration fee for all participants. Youth soccer program to be held

Community Education will be offering youth soccer this fall at the Field of Dreams soccer fields. Flyers are now available and will be distributed to students in all of the Storm Lake Schools. The deadline to register is Sept. 2. If registered after that date, a participant is not guaranteed a T-shirt. Grades K-6 may participate. Games will be played on Sundays at the Field of Dreams between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Games begin on Sept. 19 and will continue through Oct. 17. The $20 registration fee includes a team T-Shirt ($25 out of district). For more information, contact Community Education. Coaches are needed. If interested, call Community Education at 732-5711. Citizens Bank is the Unity Player Sponsor for youth soccer, allowing the program to be offered at a reduced fee for all participants.

Start Smart Football program planned

Community Education will be offering Start Smart Football for children between the ages of 4-7 years old who can attend sessions with a parent or another adult and want to prepare for future organized football programs. Start Smart Football is a three-week, two-nights-per-week program designed for parents to help their children develop motor skills necessary to play the game of football. Start Smart Football will be held at the Storm Lake Elementary School field (outside) on the following dates: Sept. 21, 23, 28 and 30, and Oct. 5 and 7 from 6-6:45 p.m. Each parent-child group will be charged $15. The last day to sign-up for the program is Friday, Sept. 17. Scholarships through Project Engage are available for this program. For more information, contact Community Education at 732-5711.
