Members of the Alta Firemen’s Association and Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Department squared off Saturday afternoon at the high school baseball diamond in Alta as part of a fundraiser benefiting both public safety organizations.

It was the sheriff’s office, though, that took home the trophy for the first-year event, winning both games by scores of 18-8 and 10-3.

“It was a great fundraiser and both sides had a lot of fun,” said Marty De Muth, a sheriff’s department captain.

Discussions are already in the works about next year’s event with hopes of having more area fire departments and law enforcement agencies taking part.
