Some pretty advanced images are coming out of the second grade classrooms at Storm Lake Elementary. STEM teacher Jacquie Drey worked with students in Mrs. Dep Ung’s class on a unit about bugs.
The kids researched the insects thoroughly, learning about their adaptation, habitats, life cycles and anatomy.
They found copyright-free images of their bugs online, had their photo taken in an appropriate pose in front of a green screen (a green sheet hung up in the classroom) and learned how to merge the photos of themselves onto the bug picture using the app Green Screen.
The second graders are compiling bug research books in this unit and even shooting video.
“I truly have one of the best jobs in the district and work with amazing colleagues,” says Mrs. Drey.
