Steven Schwarz

Steven A. Schwarz, 69, of Council Bluffs died Sept. 11, 2018 in Omaha, Neb.

He was born Sept. 11, 1949 in Clinton, to Delmer and Angeline Schwarz. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Ann Gorrell Schwarz, and his parents.

Steven Schwarz was a Boy Scout leader in Storm Lake and graduated many Eagle Scouts, including his son, Mason Del Schwarz. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Army. While residing in Storm Lake, he was employed for Taylor Contracting Company and later worked for Meyers Carlisle Leapley in Omaha, Neb. He was an avid hockey fan and belonged to the Omaha Lancers as a season ticket holder for many years.

Steve Schwarz was proud of his grandson, Ian Schwarz following the tradition of receiving his Eagle Scout award. He loved his granddaughter, Lily Schwarz for her integrity, pure heart and work ethic. He was our Hockey Grandpa and never missed a game that his grandson, Neil, played — sometimes driving through blizzards to support him. He once wrote “To have your family with you is one of the most heartwarming experiences that a person can have on this earth. It’s far more precious than anything else.”

He is survived by his wife, Fran; his best friend Jasmine the chihuahua; children: Mason (Staci) Schwarz and Rosanne (Allen Emert) Schwarz; grandchildren: Ian Schwarz, Lily Schwarz, Neil Emert; sisters: Susan Hayward and Linda Platz; stepchildren: Kelly (Mario) Perez and Jill (Mike) Brunz; stepgrandchildren: Tyler Hamell Perez, Anthony Perez, Natalia Perez, Elissia Perez, Jacob Brunz, Zachary Brunz.

A memorial service will be held at 5:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 14, at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home in Council Bluffs. Condolences and memorials may be directed to Rosanne Schwarz of Glenwood or Mason Schwarz of Des Moines.

His smile, attention to detail and sense of humor will be dearly missed. “A flight of fancy on a windswept field.”
