John Brumm

John R. Brumm, age 84, of Storm Lake, died Friday, Sept. 2, 2016 at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.



Funeral Mass was held Tuesday, Sept. 6, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Burial followed in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake was in charge of the arrangements.

John Roman Brumm was born July 18, 1932 in Meyer, the son of Lawrence and Sabina (Mullenbach) Brumm.

As an infant, John was baptized at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Meyer where he was later confirmed.

John attended school at Sacred Heart Catholic School in Meyer.

On Aug. 18, 1953, John was united in marriage to Mary Teresa Kasel at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. They were blessed with 10 children: Karen, Darryl, Donna, Scott, Carmen, Bruce, Nancy, Kurt, Mark and Terry.

Throughout his life, John was a hard worker. He began by farming with his father for a few years while living in Meyer. John took up driving truck, taking many long hauls as well as delivering U.S. Mail to Des Moines, hauling gravel, livestock and auto parts. In Osage, John ran a Conoco gas station that also had a tow truck service. Also while in Osage, John served as the president of Jaycees.

In 1969, the family moved to Mason City, where John was a salesman for International Harvester. While in Mason City, John enjoyed being an usher for Holy Family Catholic Church. He eventually delivered auto parts for Arnold Motor Supply. After many endeavors, John retired in 1997.

In 2007, John and Mary moved to Storm Lake. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He was a life-long Knights of Columbus member.

John liked collecting John Deere memorabilia and had many toy model trucks. He was an avid Iowa State Cyclones and Minnesota Twins fan. John enjoyed fishing, golfing and sharpening blades. Most of all, John was very proud of his family, and especially enjoyed the 63 years he spent with his loving wife, Mary. John will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Mary Brumm of Storm Lake; children; Karen (Terry) Murray of Storm Lake; Darryl (Kelly) Brumm of Cedar Falls; Donna (Paul) Mueller of Elsberry, Mo.; Scott (Brenda) Brumm of Cedar Rapids; Carmen (Al) Santee of Ankeny; Bruce Brumm of Webster, Minn.; Nancy (Mark) McEachran of Cedar Rapids; Kurt (Brenda) Brumm of Shawnee, Kan.; Mark (Crysti) Brumm of Des Moines; Terry (Tara) Brumm of Tarpon Springs, Fla.; 22 grandchildren: Jill, Tony, David and Becca Murray; Kate, Joel and Elizabeth Brumm; Andrew and Travis Mueller; Rachel and Kyle Brumm; Jason, Amanda, Steven and Kelvin Santee; Alecia and Andrea McEachran; Clinton and Justine Brumm; Zach and Zane Brumm; Sammi Brumm; 17 great-grandchildren; brother, Charles (Barb) Brumm of McIntire, and their children: Jennifer, Richard, Robert, Heidi and Ryan; extended family and friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents.
