Man shoots self in leg, angry over recent break-up


Sac County deputies transported an Odebolt man to Sioux City Medical Center Saturday night after he shot himself in the leg.

At 11:22 p.m. Saturday, the Sac County Sheriff’s Office was called to 601 West 2nd Street in Odebolt on a reported domestic dispute.

Deputies found Mitchell Lee Sorensen, 29, lying on the kitchen floor after he had evidently been shot with a shotgun in the upper leg area.

A landing zone was secured at the Odebolt football field and a helicopter from Sioux City landed and transported Sorensen to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City. 

Sorensen’s condition is not known. Sorensen was allegedly angry over a recent break-up. He kicked in the side door of his parents’ home and damaged some items inside the home. He then grabbed shotgun out of the gun cabinet, loaded it, went outside and discharged one round in the air.  He came back in his parents’ house where he shot himself in the leg.

 

SL juvenile arrested on drug paraphernalia charge


Police arrested a 16-year-old juvenile Sunday for smoking in his room.

At 10:30 p.m. Sunday, police took a report in reference to a juvenile possibly possessing drug paraphernalia. Police checked the room and reportedly located drug paraphernalia and tobacco in the room.

Police charged the juvenile with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of tobacco.

The case has been forwarded to the Juvenile Court Authority.

 

Juvenile runs from police, results in arrest, SLPD allege


At 12:15 a.m. Monday morning, police were dispatched to the Field of Dreams on West 10th Street in reference to a group of juveniles observed in the area.

Police observed 13-year-old male of Storm Lake allegedly flee on foot and apprehended him after a foot chase.

Police charged the juvenile male with interference with official acts.

The case has been forwarded to the Juvenile Court Authority.

 

Woman arrested on no contact order violation


Police arrested a Storm Lake woman Sunday for violating a no contact order.

At 8:45 p.m. Sunday, police were dispatched to 207 Geneseo Street #1 in reference to a violation of a no contact order.

Police located Melody Shull, 40, who allegedly was at the address and in violation of a no contact order.

Police arrested Shull and upon escorting her to a police vehicle police allege she began shouting profanities and causing a disturbance.

Police charged Shull with violation of a no contact order and disorderly conduct.

Shull was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail and held without bond.

 

SL man arrested on online harassment charge


Police arrested a Storm Lake man Saturday for sending threatening messages over the internet.

At 11:32 a.m. Saturday, police were dispatched to 120 Highway St. in reference to Melvin Russell, 34, allegedly threatening the reporting party through Facebook.

Police were advised that Russell threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend and her family members.

Police charged him with first-degree harassment and was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $2,000 bond.

 

Alcohol consumption results in arrest of SL juvenile


Police arrested a Storm Lake juvenile Saturday for consuming alcohol.

At 2:20 a.m. Saturday, police were dispatched to 906 Highview Dr. in reference to a loud music complaint.

Police alleged they observed a 17-year-old consuming alcohol and fleeing from police on foot.

Police apprehended the juvenile and charged him with possession of alcohol, public intoxication and interference with official acts.

The juvenile was processed and released to a parent pending a court date.

The case has been forwarded to the Juvenile Court Authority.

 

Early man arreested on criminal tresspass charge


Police arrested an Early man Saturday for trespassing on a Geneseo Street residence.

At 1 a.m. Saturday, police were dispatched to 207 Geneseo St. #3 in reference to Demetrius Tribble, 22, allegedly entering a residence without permission.

Police arrested Tribble and charged him with criminal trespass.

He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300 bond.

 

SL man steals from Wal-Mart, police allege


Police arrested a Storm Lake man Friday for leaving Wal-Mart with $120 in unpaid merchandise.

At 6 p.m. Friday, police were dispatched to the Storm Lake Wal-Mart Store in reference to John Calandros, 25, allegedly leaving the store with $120 in merchandise.

Police arrested Calandros and charged him with fifth-degree theft.

Calandros was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300 bond.

 

Duo charged with theft from Wal-Mart


Police arrested two people Saturday for stealing $24 in merchandise from Wal-Mart in Storm Lake.

At 6:54 p.m. Saturday, police were dispatched to the Storm Lake Wal-Mart Store in reference to Matteo Villarreal, 19, of Storm Lake, and Emma Morris, 18, of Larabee, allegedly leaving the store without paying for merchandise.

Police met with store staff who alleged that two detained patrons attempted to leave the store without paying for approximately $24 in merchandise.

Both persons were booked into the county jail on a $300 bond each.
