Teen reportedly breaks window, taken to BVRMC

The Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to 1216 Spooner St. on May 9 at 3:05 p.m. for a verbal domestic situation between a mother and her 17-year-old son.

On arrival officers were advised that the juvenile allegedly damaged windows and property at the residence and left south on foot. An officer located the 17-year-old boy of Storm Lake at N. Erie and E. Milwaukee Avenue and attempted contact when the teen reportedly fled south on foot. Officers surrounded the boy on North Erie Street, at which time he surrendered and was taken into custody.

An ambulance was dispatched to treat injuries that the 17-year-old sustained from damaging windows and property with his fist at the residence. He was later transported to BVRMC by an officer and received further treatment.

The 17-year-old was charged with third-degree criminal mischief and interference with official acts. He was released to the custody of his parents at BVRMC.

Damage at the residence was valued at $650.

The Storm Lake Police Department was assisted by Buena Vista Regional Medical Center Paramedics.           


Wanted man jailed

On May 8 at 9:46 p.m. officers arrested Sean Michael Grist, 29, of Storm Lake at the Budget Inn on an outstanding warrant.

Grist was wanted for a probation violation. He was originally charged with child endangerment and possession of methamphetamine, an aggravated misdemeanor. Grist was transported to Buena Vista County Jail where he was booked on a $2,000 bond.


Misuse of IDleads to arrest

Police were dispatched to Al’s Liquors on West Milwaukee Avenue on May 8 at 11:25 p.m. in regards to a man trying to use another person’s ID to buy alcohol.

Upon arrival police took Yvan Mugabo, 20, of Storm Lake into custody.

Mugabo was charged with possession of alcohol and misuse of an ID card, both simple misdemeanors). He was released with a pending court date.

12-year-old reportedly tries to sell bottle rockets

On May 8 at 9:59 p.m. an officer was dispatched to Storm Lake Middle School for a student who had been attempting to sell bottle rockets.

On arrival the officer was told that a 12-year-old boy of Storm Lake allegedly had three packages containing 12 bottle rockets each and a lighter. He had been trying to sell them to other students.

The bottle rockets and lighter were seized and the juvenile was referred to Juvenile Court Services on the charge of offering for sale-fireworks.

He was released to the custody of school officials.           


Fight lands three in jail

On May 9 at 12:40 a.m. a Storm Lake police officer observed a fight in a parking lot behind Puff’s Bar on East Lakeshore Drive. Officers intervened and arrested the following:

Jared Bronaugh, 22, of New Market, Ala., Arthur Villarreal, 24, of Midland, Texas, and Caleb Mackey, 22, of Royal.

All three were charged with public intoxication and disorderly conduct.

They were booked into the county jail and held on a $600 bond each.
