10-year-old boy throws knife into 9-year-old brother’s back

Mother charged after calling family in Minnesota while son bled

Police were dispatched to 1500 N. Seneca St. #208 on an anonymous report that a mother was attempting to find a ride to the hospital after her child had been stabbed on Monday at 6:47 p.m.

Upon arrival of police, they made contact with the occupants and determined that a 10-year-old boy and his 9-year-old brother allegedly engaged in an argument, at which time the 10- year-old armed himself with a kitchen knife and began to chase the younger brother around the apartment. At some point the 10-year-old threw the knife at his brother, stabbing him in the back.

Police further allege that the mother did not call for medical assistance for the 9-year-old victim and instead called family in Minnesota. Subsequently another family member came to the apartment and transported the 9-year-old to Buena Vista Regional Medical Center by private vehicle. The mother and 10-year-old brother stayed home.

Police located and seized the kitchen knife and a blood stained shirt at the scene.  Other officers responded to BVRMC where they met with the 9-year-old victim.

The victim was treated at the medical center and later released to family members.

Police arrested the mother, identified as Jennifer Means-Delcid, 42, of Storm Lake, and charged her with child endangerment.  She was booked into jail on a $2,000 bond.

Police charged the 10-year-old male with aggravated assault with a weapon.  He was processed and released to a family member.
