Sex offender jailed, faces drug charges

Police were on location at an apartment complex at 1804 East Milwaukee Ave. conducting an investigation on an incident that occurred earlier in the weekend. While on location on Sunday at 6:52 p.m., police allege they detected the odor of marijuana coming from apartment #131. 

Police made contact with the occupant identified as Alexia Todd, 23, of Storm Lake.  While speaking to Todd police detected the odor of marijuana coming from inside the apartment. Police detained a second resident identified as Dion Banks, 32 of Storm Lake, who arrived while police were on location.

Police conducted a consent search of the apartment and seized a small amount of marijuana.  Following an investigation police arrested both Todd and Banks and charged them both with possession of marijuana.

Police learned that Banks was in violation of the sex offender registry for not registering that he was living with Todd and her two young children. Banks was further charged with failure to comply with the sex offender registry, subsequent offense, a class D felony. 

Todd was booked into Buena Vista County Jail on a $1,000 bond.

Banks was booked into the county jail on a $6,000 bond.

Two small children who were in the apartment were released to a relative and a report was filed with the Iowa Department of Human Services.
