Four children reportedly break in to South School

Police were dispatched to South School in reference to a report of juveniles breaking into the cafeteria on Wednesday at 3:20 p.m.

Police met with school staff who reported when they arrived at South School to check the facility they allegedly observed four boys exit the back door and fled. 

An investigation at the scene by police alleges that a boy forced entry into the cafeteria, joined by three other boys who entered the school.

They played in the building until they fled when a vehicle arrived at the school.

Police were able to identify all four boys by interviewing witnesses who observed the incident. The juveniles were located by police and identified as three 12-year-old boys of Storm Lake and an 11-year-old boy, also of Storm Lake.

All four boys were located by responding officers and transported to the police station where one 12-year-old was charged with criminal trespass and criminal mischief.

The remaining three juveniles were charged with criminal trespass. All four boys were processed and released to a parent pending a court date.

Damage to the school door is estimated at $40.

The case has been forwarded to the Juvenile Court Authority.
