Marijuana found in traffic stop

A wanted person was seen riding in a vehicle in the 1800 block of Lake Avenue at 2 p.m. Friday.

Police arrested Larry Morataya, 26, of Storm Lake, who was wanted out of Buena Vista County on a warrant charging him with failure to appear in court in reference to driving while barred.

During the traffic stop police detected the smell of marijuana. Police located two containers from a Denver, Colo., dispensary containing marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Following an investigation police additionally charged Morataya with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was booked into the county jail on a $3,300 bond.        

A 17-year-old male in the vehicle was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. He was processed and released to a family member pending a court date in Juvenile Court.


Two jailed after fight

Two arrests were made in connection with a fight that occurred in the 200 block of Geneseo Street on June 7.

Police arrested Dante Putnam, 19, of Storm Lake at 11:42 p.m. Saturday and charged him with disorderly conduct. He was booked into the county jail on a $300 bond.

At 8:21 p.m. Sunday, Demetrius Tribble, 21, of Storm Lake surrendered himself to police. He was wanted on a disorderly conduct charge and was booked into BV County Jail on a $300 bond. 


SL man charged with theft

A theft was reported at Walmart on Saturday at 8:21 p.m.

Police met with store staff who said Logan Schafer, 20, of Storm Lake, tried to steal merchandise from the store.

Police arrested Schafer and charged him with theft. He was booked into Buena Vista County Jail on a $300 bond.


Man charged with OWI

A routine traffic violation on Saturday night at 9:52 p.m. in the 100 block of Kenzy Street turned into an OWI arrest.

Andrew Pytel, 24, of Storm Lake, was found to be intoxicated and was driving a vehicle that did not have an ignition interlock device, which he was required to do.

Police arrested Pytel and charged him with OWI or subsequent offense and failure to comply with an ignition interlock system. He was booked into the county jail on a $6,000 bond.


Three Storm Lake people jailed on drug charges

A Buena Vista County Deputy was serving a civil paper at 725 Otsego St. on Thursday night when he smelled marijuana at the residence and detained several people at the home.

Police identified Leonard Pauley, 52, Ernest Harden III, 30 and Sandra Carlson, 62, all from Storm Lake.

At 10 p.m. Thursday police executed a search warrant and located marijuana, drug paraphernalia including a scale, pipes, bongs and cash.

Police charged Pauley with possession with intent to deliver, gathering where controlled substances are used and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was booked into the county jail on a $5,000 bond.

Harden and Carlson were both charged with gathering where controlled substances are used.

They were both booked into the county jail on a $1,000 bond.

The incident remains under investigation and additional charges are anticipated.
