Early man gets 15 years for child sex

Chica involved with 14-year-old girl

Paz Chica, 40, of Early was sentenced up to 15 years in prison on Monday after pleading guilty to two sex crimes.

Those charges came after Chica was having inappropriate contact with a young girl over the course of a month. Chica admitted at his plea hearing that he engaged in sex acts with a 14-year-old girl.

The case was first brought to the attention of the Storm Lake Police Department in November last year.

The numerous sexually motivated acts occurred within October and November of 2013, while the child was in the care of Chica.

Some of the acts occurred in Clay and Sac counties.

Because the offenses are considered sex crimes, after his release from prison Chica will be on parole for the rest of his life under the supervision of the Iowa Department of Corrections.

Additionally, Chica will be required to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life.

Chica is originally from El Salvador and faces potential deportation after serving his prison sentence.

Chica still faces sexually motivated criminal charges in Clay and Sac.
