Police arrest one in hit and run

A hit and run accident was reported at 8:10 a.m. Jan. 3 at the intersection of Lake Avenue and C49.

Officers were told that a 2000 Chrysler 300 struck a 2013 Peterbilt tractor truck and then fled from the scene.

The Peterbilt truck sustained $1,500 in damage.

Officers observed the suspect vehicle and stopped it in the 200 block of West Milwaukee, where the driver was identified as Shawn Adonis Hill, 40, of Cherokee. His vehicle received $4,000 in damages.

Police charged Hill with leaving the scene of an accident and failure to obey a traffic control device. He was booked on a $600 bond.

No injuries were reported.        


Woman found by police with self-inflicted cuts

An intoxicated woman was found cutting herself Jan. 3 at 713C West Ninth St., according to police.

Tonya Whiteside, 21, of Huntington, Ind., was in the apartment suffering from superficial self-inflicted cuts. She was transported by ambulance to Buena Vista Regional Medical Center.

Police discovered that Whiteside was wanted on outstanding warrants in Buena Vista County and Storm Lake charging her with failure to appear in reference to accessory to a felony, failure to appear in reference to possession of a controlled substance, contempt of court in reference to failure to pay fines and additional warrants in reference to OWI and driving while barred.

After being released from BVRMC police booked Whiteside into Buena Vista County Jail and held her without bond.


Man arrested on warrant

Martin Guillen, 23, of Storm Lake, was arrested Saturday at 9:41 a.m. on a warrant out of Ida County charging him with leaving the scene of an accident.

He was booked into Buena Vista County Jail on a $300 bond.


Marijuana found in vehicle

Two people were arrested Jan. 3 at 8:30 p.m. after police found marijuana in their possession.

Police stopped a vehicle in the 400 block of Flindt Dr. for a traffic violation. Police detected the odor of marijuana in the vehicle and discovered marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Police arrested Nicole Schuler, 23, of Grimes and charged her with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was booked into BV County Jail on a $1,300 bond.

Police also arrested a 17-year-old of Grimes and charged him with possession of marijuana. He was processed and released to a guardian.
