Police find marijuana, meth, assault rifle in Storm Lake home

 

2 small children found in residence


On the afternoon of June 11 at 5:45 p.m. the Storm Lake Police Department executed a search warrant at a residence located at 606 Otsego St. in connection with the investigation of illegal drug sales and use in Storm Lake.

Supported by the SLPD Narcotics Team and K9 Unit they executed a search of the home that included several people and two small children.

During the search police found several ounces of marijuana which was packaged for street sales, a small quantity of methamphetamine, cash alleged to be proceeds from illegal drug sales, packaging materials, weighing equipment and other drug paraphernalia.

Police further located and seized a SKS assault rifle, multiple ammunition magazines for the rifle and ammunition.

Police identified a suspect as Khao Vongdeuane, 24, of Storm Lake. Vongdeuane was taken into custody without incident and subsequently charged by the Storm Lake Police Department with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, failure to affix a drug tax stamp, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was booked into Buena Vista County Jail on an $11,300 cash bond.

A report was filed with the Iowa Department of Human Services in connection with the two small children residing in the residence where alleged drug sales were occurring.

        

Man swipes items from bedroom, flees the scene


On the evening of June 11 at 7:51 p.m. the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to 319 West Seventh St. in reference to a burglary.

Once police arrived at the scene they spoke with the reporting party who identified the man as David Almendarez, 18 of Storm Lake.

Almendarez allegedly entered the residence without permission and removed items from a bedroom. As Almendarez was leaving the female victim tried to stop him but he ran from the scene.

During the investigation police determined that the items taken in the burglary were allegedly stolen retail being stored in the residence by a third party.

Officers located Almendarez a short time later running in the 600th block of Otsego Street after they responded to a report of a suspicious person. Police apprehended Almendarez with no shoes on and covered in mud.

The alleged stolen items were found under a deck at a nearby residence.

Storm Lake police charged Almendarez with second-degree burglary and booked him on a $10,000 cash bond.

 

Additional charges


David Almendarez, 18, of Storm Lake, was charged with possession of tools to remove theft detection devices on Wednesday afternoon.

After arresting brother David, Rolando Almendarez, 19, of Storm Lake, was also charged with possession of tools to remove theft detection devices.

During a burglary investigation on Wednesday afternoon the Storm Lake Police Department found a tool at 319 West Seventh St. that is used to remove theft detection devices at retail stores.

Rolando Almendarez was booked into the county jail on a $1,000 cash bond. His brother David is already being held in Buena Vista County Jail on a $11,000 cash bond.

 

Stolen garden tiller


On June 10 a complaint was reported by Duana Kracht of Linn Grove at 4450 190th Ave.

Kracht reported his garden tiller was stolen from his rental property at 307 Long St. in Royal between the morning of June 7 and June 10. This incident is under investigation. If anyone has any information about this case please call the Clay County Sheriff’s Office at 712-262-3221.

Florida man makes a scene in Storm Lake parking lot


Edelson Valdes, 29, of Hialeah, Fla., was charged with disorderly conduct on June 12 at 7:55 p.m.

Witnesses said he became irate in the Tyson Plant waiting for his truck to be loaded. According to police, he was loud, disruptive and swore at staff.

Valdes was booked into  Buena Vista County Jail on a $300 cash bond.

 

Wanted man arrested


On June 10 at 7:50 a.m. the Storm Lake Police Department responded to 111 Mae St. in reference to locating a wanted person.

On arrival, police located and arrested Miguel Sanchez-Hernandez, 25, of Storm Lake, who was wanted on a warrant charging him with failure to appear in reference to an OWI.

Sanchez-Hernandez was booked into Buena Vista County Jail on a $2,000 cash bond.

 

Man arrested on warrant


On June 10 at 3:20 p.m. the Storm Lake Police Department responded to 429 Hudson St. in reference to locating a wanted person.

Police located and arrested Si Fang, 24, of Storm Lake, who was wanted on a warrant charging him with violating probation in reference to domestic assault (second offense).

Fang was booked into the county jail on a $2,000 cash bond.
