Buena Vista County Conservationist Katie Struss presented a program about birds for the clients from Genesis at the Storm Lake Library on Wednesday morning.
She read the book Feathers for Lunch and passed around different kinds of bird feathers for everyone to see and touch.

Early man jailed
Police arrested an Early man Tuesday for making unauthorized charges on a Genesis employee’s gift card.
On Tuesday morning, police took a report at Genesis Development on North Lake Ave., in reference to a fraudulent use of a credit card.

Citizens Community Credit Union sold May Day Baskets at its Storm Lake branch. The money raised by the sales was donated to Genesis Development. Genesis will use this donation towards the purchase of another vehicle to continue to enhance community involvement for its Discovery group.

Best news of the week: Sen. Mark Segebart, R-Vail, says work activity centers probably will survive a vote by the Senate Human Resources Committee to be included as “core services” required under a new mental health funding bill.

Not much landmark legislation is expected in this, an election year, from the Iowa Legislature that convenes next Monday. As old Hippo once said, “First, do no harm.” Don’t try to reinvent the public school system or its funding formula in one session. Clean up property tax reform you created last year. Forget about increasing the fuel tax. And there are so many other things not to step in.

Storm Lake United Commercial Travelers Council #357 represented by Monica Rice and Tom Rice presented Genesis Development with $100 to put toward the annual Christmas party for members. Ed Rice representing Storm Lake I.O.O.F. Lodge 221 donated $500 also to be put toward the Christmas party. Accepting the donations were Kami Jorgensen, Amy Morgan, Ann Hill, Kathy Otto and Retia Shugar.
