Police arrested two Cherokee residents in Royal Sunday involving a string of burglaries in more than 10 northwest Iowa counties.
At 4:30 a.m. Sunday, a Clay County Deputy witnessed Shawn Edward Boger, 25, and Misty Lynn Smith, 37, attempting to burglarize a car near Haggy’s bar in Royal, Ia.
Both were arrested for attempted burglary and possession of burglary tools.
Boger was arrested in 2009 for a string of car thefts and was subsequently sent to prison in 2013 for attempting to escape a residential treatment facility in Sheldon.

Teen called for help, brought safely to shore
An attempted water rescue in Lost Island Lake Friday has claimed the life of a Carroll woman.
At 2:26 p.m. Friday, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office received notice from the Palo Alto County Sheriff about a possible drowning in Lost Island Lake.
Elizabeth Ann McCorkle, 56, was receiving medical attention on shore from emergency medical responders.

A Clay County Deputy conducted a traffic stop with prior knowledge of the registered owner not having a valid driver’s license.
Upon investigation, it was found that the registered owner was not driving but Lisa Lozano, 45, of Albert City, was. Lozano had a suspended license.
Lozano was placed under arrest and was transported to the Clay County Jail without incident.

Fund to help Samsons
A Peterson family’s home and belongings were ravaged by fire early Tuesday.
At 4:15 a.m. the Clay County Sheriff’s Office received a fire call at 329 Elm St. in Peterson.
The home belonged to Andy and Jennifer Samson.

Brent Peterson, 53, of Laurens, was arrested Saturday on Hwy. 18 for driving while intoxicated. A Clay County Deputy stopped Peterson and transported him to Clay County Jail.
He was charged with OWI.
