The garment industry took root in Ayotlan in 1967, and grew to 135 shops. Now it is down to 60 shops because the Chinese undercut Mexican prices by 50%. The government is worried because it is a major source of tax revenue. Above is the garment shop floor. The room is full of light and airy; workers listen to music on earphones and appear happy on the job.
