Jasmine Demers finished with 34 points, five assists, four rebounds and three blocked shots, but it wasn’t enough as Pocahontas Area jumped out to a 35-14 lead after the first quarter en route to a 93-52 win over Storm Lake St. Mary’s last Friday at Pomeroy.
The Indians scored 35 points in the second quarter as well to take a 70-34 halftime lead. It was 86-50 entering the fourth period of play.
Katie Lenhart scored six points for the Panthers. Mackenzie Laven and Annie Flynn each had four. Emily Ivey and Rachel Todd had two points apiece.

Ashley Williams poured in 33 points to lead three players in double figures as Lawton-Bronson defeated Ridge View 73-44 in the first round of the Western Valley Conference Tournament last Thursday at Lawton.
The Eagles jumped out to a 21-8 lead after the first quarter. It was 37-14 at halftime and 62-32 heading into the fourth period of play.
Jadyn Mohr scored 14 points to lead Ridge View, now 8-9.

Indians prevail 70-53
Pocahontas Area scored 50 points in the second half after scoring only 20 in the first half as the Indians upset No. 1-ranked Newell-Fonda 70-53 in a Twin Lakes Conference game last Saturday night at Pocahontas.
The Mustangs jumped out to a 16-4 lead after the first quarter. It was 30-20 at halftime, but the Indians used a 24-10 spurt in the third period to take a 44-40 lead into the final 8 minutes. Pocahontas outscored Newell-Fonda 26-13 in the fourth stanza.

Ridge View outscored Kingsley-Pierson 19-4 in the third quarter to erase a seven-point halftime deficit, then withstood a rally in the fourth quarter to hold on for a 55-51 win in the consolation bracket of the Western Valley Conference Tournament on Monday night.
Kingsley-Pierson jumped out to a 17-4 lead early before Ridge View was able to pull within 20-10 by the end of the first quarter. The Raptors managed to get within 30-23 by half.

Manuel Murillo won all three of his matches by pin to help Alta-Aurelia pick up three dual wins in a Twin Lakes Conference quadrangular last Thursday night at Gowrie.
The Warriors pinned East Sac County 54-18 in the first dual. Junior Molina pinned his opponent in 3 minutes, 17 seconds at 152 pounds. Murillo won by pin in 49 seconds at 170.
Cody Cameron (145), Ben Stange (160), James Walter (195), Skylar Solko (106), Chris Langner (113) and Colten Larson (120) all won their matches by forfeit.

Jason Kenny and Matt Wandrey each captured an individual title to help Ridge View finish second in the Kingsley-Pierson Tournament last Saturday.
Westwood won the meet with 257 points. The Raptors scored 199 points.
Kenny won the title at 145 pounds with a win by pin in 3:02. Wandrey took the 170-pound title with a win by pin in 1:47.
Luke Kliegl placed second at 160 pounds. He lost in the finals by decision 6-3.
Tyler Ehrp (106), Zach Kenny (113), Tristin Stibbins (152), Kyle Schiernbeck (182) and Henry Sippel (195) all placed third for the Raptors.

Larson, Cameron, Murillo all finish second
Colten Larson, Cody Cameron and Manuel Murillo all placed second at their respective weight classes to lead Alta-Aurelia at the Pocahontas Invitational last Saturday.
Pocahontas Area won the team title with 243 points. The Warriors finished fifth with 146.
Larson won his first match by pin in 3:25 before winning three straight matches by forfeit. He then lost by pin in the finals at 120 pounds.

Freshman Slade Stiles got Buena Vista off to a strong start with his upset at 125 pounds, but No. 13 Luther posted back-to-back pins in the next two matches to reclaim the lead and the Norse went on to win the Iowa Conference dual 31-12 last Friday night.
Stiles, now 25-11, was trailing in the opening match before locking up a cradle and pinning No. 5-ranked Garrett Wangsness (23-5) early in the third period, exciting the Beaver team and crowd. That was his team-leading 17th pin of the year, moving him within one of the program’s single-season record.

Freshman Elle Ruffridge scored a game-high 25 points as Pocahontas Area jumped out to a 19-4 lead after the first quarter and never looked back as the Indians defeated Storm Lake 67-26 in a nonconference game last Thursday at Tornado Fieldhouse.
Pocahontas Area held a 43-6 lead at halftime and led 56-17 entering the fourth period.

Tornadoes beat Emmetsburg to take over sixth place
Storm Lake’s goal coming into Tuesday night’s game against Emmetsburg was clear — to switch spots with the E’Hawks in the Lakes Conference standings.
Yach Deng poured in a game-high 29 points and Storm Lake responded after its 17-point lead early in the fourth quarter was cut to single digits as the Tornadoes picked up their fourth win in their last seven games with a 64-48 triumph over Emmetsburg on Tuesday at Tornado Fieldhouse.
