LaRue Terry

LaRue Terry, 101, of Sheldon, formerly of Storm Lake, died Monday, June 6, 2016 at Prairie View Home in Sanborn.



Funeral services will be held Friday, June 10, at 11 a.m. at the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Morgan Township Cemetery in Schleswig. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. 

LaRue Katherine Miller was born Sept. 25, 1914 in Schleswig, the daughter of Charlie and Anena (Baeth) Miller. 

She was baptized at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig. LaRue attended school at a country school. 

LaRue was a waitress in Ida Grove, where she met Don Terry. After a short stint working in Michigan, she returned home. On Feb. 12, 1938, the couple was united in marriage at her parents’ home in Schleswig. Together, they were blessed with one daughter, Janet.



LaRue was a housewife while raising Janet and also served at Lakeside Presbyterian Church, teaching Sunday school and serving as an Elder and Deacon. LaRue worked as a credit manager for Sears for many years. 

Throughout the years, LaRue did a lot of sewing, knitting, and quilting. She was talented at needlework, crafting, and refinishing furniture. Along with crafting and sewing, she always kept a beautiful flower garden and was an avid gardener in her garden club. LaRue was a very organized person and loved traveling in her retirement. Most of all, LaRue cherished the time spent with family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.



Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Janet (Glen) Hofmeyer of Hospers; grandchildren: Tim Hofmeyer and his children: Taylor (fiancé, Anna Peters), Travis (Melanie) Hofmeyer; Todd Hofmeyer; Terri Koedam and her children, Elyse and Trace; many nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.

LaRue was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don; brother, Herbert (Amanda) Miller; and sister, Alice (Carl) Bielenberg. 

Jerry Brewster

Jerry L. Brewster, ­­­­68, of Storm Lake, died Friday, June 3, 2016 at Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, June 11, at 11 a.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. 

Jerome Lewis “Jerry” Brewster was born July 28, 1947 in Sheldon, the son of Donald and Leorna (Milenberg) Brewster.

He was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic faith in Sheldon.

In 1965, Jerry graduated from Sheldon High School. After high school, Jerry joined the United States Navy. He served his country during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged on June 25, 1968.

Jerry was a loving father to two daughters, Pennie and Melodie.

In his earlier years, Jerry worked for Illinois Central Railroad as a conductor. He then began working at Tyson Foods in Storm Lake, retiring in 2012.

Jerry loved movies, collecting thousands throughout his lifetime. He also collected Star Wars and Disney figurines. Jerry loved Christmas time and every year he would spend days baking and decorating Christmas cookies that he would give away to just about everyone he knew. Many people would say they were the best cookies they have ever had. Most of all, Jerry cherished the time spent with his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters: Pennie (Matt) Kragel of Storm Lake; Melodie Brewster of Cherokee; grandchildren: Alexa Brewster of Cherokee; Kyra and Jacob Kragel of Storm Lake; great-grandson, Ryden Monroe of Cherokee; brothers: Robert (Lynette) Brewster of Omaha, Neb.; Harold Brewster of Sioux City; Roger (Mary Jane) Brewster of St. Cloud, Minn.; Timothy (Connie) Brewster of Sheldon; Tedd Brewster of Windom, Minn.; Greg (Nancy) Brewster of Sheldon; Kevin (Barb) Brewster of Stevens Point, Wis.; sister, Mary Ann Patterson of Irving, Tex.; many nieces and nephews; extended family and friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers: David (Pat) Brewster and Paul Brewster.
