Phyllis Rehnstrom

Phyllis Ann Rehnstrom, 82, of Alta went home to her loving Lord on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Memorial Services were held on Monday, July 2, at Hope Evangelical Free Church in Storm Lake. Burial was in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Alta was in charge of the arrangements.

Phyllis Ann Chindlund was born July 3, 1935 in Storm Lake, the daughter of Frances (Langner) and Conrad Chindlund. As an infant, she was baptized and later confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake.

Phyllis attended Storm Lake Public School and graduated from Fairview in 1953.

On Sept. 27, 1953, Phyllis was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Merrill Rehnstrom. Together, they were blessed with three children: Craig, Cherri and John. Phyllis and Merrill worked hand in hand on the farm where she enjoyed being able to stay home and raise their children.

Phyllis was a member of the Neighborhood Busy Bee Club. She belonged to Center Grove Evangelical Free Church for many years where she taught Sunday School, led vacation bible school and was very active in women ministry. When the Center Grove Evangelical Free Church closed, Phyllis became a member of Hope Evangelical Free Church in Storm Lake.

In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, baking and had a love for antiques. A favorite pastime of Phyllis’ was car rides to enjoy God’s creation. Family was extremely important to Phyllis and she treasured living within eight miles of her children. She will be lovingly remembered as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Phyllis will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 64 years, Merrill Rehnstrom of Alta; children: Craig (Mary) Rehnstrom of Alta; Cherri (Phil) Driver of Linn Grove; John (Louise) Rehnstrom of Alta; grandchildren: Jesse (Merli) Driver of Bali, Indonesia; Leah (Jim) Kain of Des Moines; Rachel (Greg) Haack of Emmetsburg; Jacob Rehnstrom (fiancé, Kim Hopf) of Watertown, S.D.; Amy Rehnstrom (significant other, John Dahl) of Alta; Ange Rehnstrom (significant other, Aaron Schossow) of Fort Collins, Colo.; great-grandchildren: Jace Rehnstrom and Lauralea Hopf; brother, Ronald (Ann) Chindlund of Storm Lake; brother-in-law, Robert Rehnstrom of Storm Lake; nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Conrad and Frances Chindlund; and in-laws, Eldon and Viola Rehnstrom.
