Dennis Peters

Dennis Peters, 73, of Storm Lake died on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at his home.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 4, at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial was in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake.

Dennis Dean Peters, known by his friends as “Pete,” lived a colorful life. He was born May 3, 1944, at Storm Lake, to Lowell and Joy (Meyer) Peters. He lived his youth and received his education in Storm Lake. Pete continued his education in Minneapolis where he became a First Class Electronic Technician. Pete joined the Army in 1962 and served in Korea and Germany.

Upon returning home, he met and married Diane Starkenburg at Omaha, Neb. on Feb. 7,1967 and took Carrie as his daughter. Another daughter, Dina, was born in 1968. A daughter, Cindy, moved in with the family in 1974.

Throughout his very full and active life, Pete golfed Saturday mornings with Bingo Bango, ran a CB shop, coached the original White Caps baseball team, rode motorcycles, ran the Storm Lake Municipal Golf Course, water skied, boated and of course, hunted. His repertoire of jokes was most impressive, as well.

Pete was known as a generous person, dog lover and an all around good guy. He loved tinkering with his duck boat, making it bigger, stronger and faster. His trucks were always outfitted with duck and goose decals and he loved blowing duck and goose calls, even in spite of his family’s complaining.

Pete had many friends in the duck hunting world, including his best hunting buddy, Jim Nichols. He led many hunting trips to Niobrara, Neb., Canada and Kansas. Many of his friends learned about hunting from Pete, and having many amazing (and funny) stories to tell about the things they’d seen and done.

Pete also did anything for his kids and grandkids. He was the “go to guy” for putting things together and fixing everything. He loved teasing kids with his dad jokes and prankers.

His life will always be loved and cherished by his family which include his wife of 51 years, Dianne, of Storm Lake; his children: Cindy Bosley and her fiancé, Curt Ellison, of Storm Lake; Carrie Peters of Early; and Dina (Doug) Yarbrough; his grandchildren: Jaimee (Joe) Beisler, Shayne (Danika) Hinkeldey, Justin Gosch, Alex Yarbrough and Taylor Yarbrough; his great grandchildren: Ty and Kaitlyn Gosch; Preston, Madison and Dawson Hinkeldey; Caytlin and Brayden Dirks; his brother, Doug (Sharen) Peters of Storm Lake; other extended family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He will be sorely missed but we are so happy he had such a full and wonderful life.
